Miss World 2007: China wins, Trinidad & Tobago ties with Sweden

Judges at the 2007 edition of the Miss World competition crowned Miss China Zi Lin Zhang much to the pleasure of the audience present at Sanya, a popular beach holiday location within the People's Republic of China.
Trinidad and Tobago's Valene Maharaj placed in the Top Five out of more than 105 girls from around the world representing a similar number of countries and territories. Coming from an island of only 1.5 million people, this is an impressive feat.
Valene also tied Trinidad and Tobago with Sweden after the top three were chosen. They were Miss Mexico, Miss Angola and Miss China.
The competition was going in an interesting direction when three West Indians were named among the Top 10 semi-finalists. They were Miss Jamaica, Miss Grenada and T&T.
Trinidad and Tobago viewers can catch a repeat of the show on C Television at 8 pm tonight and again at 2 pm tomorrow.
The competition took place in the coastal area of Sanya, which is a beautiful port city in the Hainan Province.
Sanya tropical beach is a scenic area popular among Chinese and foreigners alike.
It stretches over 100 km of coast and consists of Yalong Bay, Haitang Bay, "the End of the Earth", Luobi Cave and other scenic spots.
As it never gets colder than 21 degrees celsius, Sanya has become an international tourist resort complete with beautiful sand beaches, green coconut trees, blue waters and fresh air.
The girls were of course also taken to the tourist hot spots on culturally rich mainland China.
Though many will return home without a tangible reward from the competition, all of them can say that they've been to the Great Wall of China. Can you?
