The Gender Affairs Division of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs will host a Breakfast Seminar to commemorate International Women’s Day on Monday March 8, 2010 at the La Boucan room, Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre from 8.00 am.

This year’s theme is “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All” and the Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs the Honourable Marlene Mc Donald will deliver an address at the event. Members of staff at the Ministry, including men are being invited to attend the seminar which has two main objectives:

    • To identify the relevance of the Draft National Policy on Gender and Development to the work of all Divisions of the Ministry and

    • To commemorate IWD in camaraderie with the members of staff.
Other activities being put on by the Ministry include a Trade Fair and 5K Walk/Run to be held on March 13, 2010 outside the Ministry’s head office, a series of Community-based events at various Community Centres across the country from March 11 to 26, 2010 and a Distinguished Lecture on March 23, 2010 at a venue to be announced.

International Women’s Day is commemorated on March 8 each year in countries all over the world, through activities that highlight the various achievements and issues affecting women and areas for further action in the promotion of gender equity and equality.
