TUCO Executive strives for continuous success
Eric Taylor, President of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO) joined his Executive team for a Post Carnival Retreat last weekend, March 6th at the Cascadia Hotel, St. Anns.The retreat was an initiative to evaluate the organisations’ performance for the 2010 carnival season and plan a way forward for 2011. TUCO successfully hosted the following major shows/events as part of the Carnival calendar of events for 2010:
- Calypso Tents, - Kaiso Showkase, Kaiso House, Kaiso Karavan, Icons,
- Junior Calypso Monarch Finals
- Junior Calypso Roving Tent
- National Calypso Monarch Semifinals “Calypso Fiesta”
- Rapso Explosion
- “Kaiso Rama”– Extempo Monarch, Political, Social and Humourous
Categories Finals
- National Calypso Monarch Finals “Dimanche Gras” During the planning stage for Carnival 2010, TUCO took some new measures to market and promote Carnival events which included a Car raffle which was drawn on Carnival Thursday night at Kaiso Rama, as well as an intense advertising and marketing campaign for the calypso tents and shows which resulted in heightened public interest. Last year, the organization also executed a successful series of events in celebration of Calypso History month. This included, among other things:
- Vintage Kaiso Show – ATribute to Ras Shorty I
- Children Calypso Workshop at the NALIS
- A Calypso Exhibition at the National Museum and Art Gallery
- An Awards Ceremony entitled: Celebrating the Doctors in Calypso
- A Lecture Series entitled :‘Smut in Calypso’
As a way forward, the Executive intends to strengthen existing bonds and extending alliances with the corporate sector and all pertinent governmental agencies. In addition to this, as an internal measure, sub-committees will continue to function with particular emphasis on Marketing and Public Relations, Welfare, Hospitality, Operations and Finance as these relates to the calypsonians and the calypso artform itself.
