Minister Hunt trains with U-16 netballers
The Honourable Gary Hunt, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs ran toe-to-toe with Trinidad and Tobago’s young netballers yesterday morning. He was participating in a drill session with the under-16 netball team who are preparing for the Jean Pierre Championships in Barbados, a regional tournament for junior netballers. After the session, Minister Hunt gave the team a pep talk, reminding them that diligent mental and physical preparation was key to the success of any team. President of the Trinidad and Tobago Netball Association, Pat Butcher was in praise of the Minister’s presence at the practice session as she said it gave the girls a tremendous sense of responsibility to perform at the tournament and the encouragement to train hard. Trinidad and Tobago placed second behind Jamaica at the last edition of the biennial tournament, named after an icon in Caribbean netball.
The team is trained by Shurlan Boras, coached by Naomi Bobb and managed by Lynette Duncan. The contingent heads to Barbados on 8 April.
