Trinidad and Tobago to add two new elite athletes
Young cyclist Njisane Phillips and former Olympian Roger Daniel will both receive funding from the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs as part of the Elite Athlete Assistance Programme (EAAP). The ceremony, involving the Honourable Gary Hunt, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, will take place tomorrow Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 2:00 pm at the 5th floor conference room.The Trinidad Rifle Association and Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation recommended both athletes for funding under the EAAP, which is designed to assist elite athletes with the necessary financing to support training and competition, especially in the lead-up to major international meets such as the CAC, Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
Roger has represented Trinidad and Tobago in shooting for a number of years, including at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, while Njisane is a recent CAC Junior Games medallist. Roger is expected to attend the ceremony while Njisane, who is currently in training in California, will be represented by his father Phillip Whiteman.
