Tropical wave passes over Trinidad and Tobago
The Meteorological Service has advised through its 7:30 am Information Bulletin that
Trinidad and Tobago continue to be affected by activity associated with a passing
tropical wave.
The Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is also interacting with the system. Consequently, over the next two hours Trinidad and Tobago will be affected by heavy and possibly intense showers and thundershowers. Gusty winds in excess of 40 km/hr will accompany these downpours. Small river courses have been inundated with rapid rainfall accumulation. Water levels in the Caroni River are approaching critical levels, overspill will be inevitable.
The National Emergency Operations Centre has been activated and all first responder agencies and other Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) have been notified to render immediate assistance to affected communities.
The ODPM continues to reiterate that Trinidad and Tobago is now actively in the period of heightened hydro-meteorological activity and therefore, persons are to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to safeguard their families and valuables.
The situation is being monitored and the public will be advised accordingly.
