A total of 1,100 persons will graduate from the Community Education (Skills Training) Programme in a ceremony to be held at Queen’s Hall on August 26, 2010 from 1.30 pm. There will also be a booth display in the carpark, showcasing many of the craft and other items created by the participants during the 20 to 25 week course. Forty six classes were conducted at various community centres in the district.
The participants received training in areas such as:
• Balloon Decorations
• Crafts
• Food Preparation
• Event Management
• Upholstering
• Furniture Construction
• Landscaping
• Small Engine Repairs
• Computer Literacy and
• Cosmetology
The CEP is regarded as one of the Ministry’s main programmes, as it targets the unemployed in many communities. It is geared towards empowering the less fortunate communities and affording them equal opportunities to respond positively and effectively to the push and pull of today’s dynamic social and economic environment.
The programme is employment oriented and provides domestic support by equipping householders with skills to help them reduce expenditure and improve household income.

A total of 436 young men and women between the ages of 17 to 30 years graduated from the Geriatric Adolescent Partnership Programme, after 14 to 16 weeks of training in care for the elderly, in a ceremony held at Queen’s Hall this morning. Graduates from various districts across the country successfully completed Level One and Level Two courses of study in areas such as:
Nutrition and Home Management, Nursing Aide Skills and Health Promotion, Life Skills in Level One and Advanced Nutrition, Advanced Nursing Aide Skills and Health Promotion and Coping Strategies in Level Two.
Several awards were also presented in the categories of:
-Most Outstanding Trainees
-Most Improved Trainees
-Mr or Mrs GAPP (one winner was announced for each participating community centre)
-Best Centre (overall) - Embacadere
-Most Disciplined Centre – Navet
