Bravo's XI beat Gayle's XI

Ravi Rampaul turned in a strong all-round performance to help Dwayne Bravo's XI beat Chris Gayle's XI by 44 runs in a West Indies practice match at Kensington Oval Tuesday.

The 23-year-old slammed 48 as Bravo's XI, batting first after winning the toss, reached 214 for nine off their 50 allotted overs.

Rampaul, a right-arm pacer who has played 23 One-Day Internationals for the West Indies, returned with the ball to take three for 33 as Gayle's XI tumbled for 170 from 30.3 overs.

Known more for his bowling, Rampaul hammered four sixes and one four to lead Bravo XI's charge, while Devon Smith chipped in with 39 and Bravo, 34.

West Indies wicketkeeper batsman Denesh Ramdin hit 32 while Jamaican batsman Brenton Parchment, the only new face in the 15-man squad for the Zimbabwe tour, scored 29 with three fours.

Twenty-four year old off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth claimed three for 45 while medium pacers Dwayne Smith and Kemar Roach finished with two wickets apiece.

In Gayle XI's reply, Sewnarine Chattergoon hit 56 from 58 balls with eight fours but the batting struggled.

Right-hander Runako Morton scored 38 with three fours while Patrick Browne hit 21 and Darren Sammy scored 20.

Birchall to return to Coventry - UK press

By Stuart Gillespie

Chris Birchall has revealed he plans to go back to Coventry City in January. The Trinidad and Tobago World Cup star is on loan at Saints from the Sky Blues but filly intends to return to the Ricoh Arena when the deal comes to an end.

Birchall was brought to Love Street to play on the right wing, but has been out of the team for the last few games. While the quality of his crossing has been decent, there has been no sign of the long range efforts he seems to be famous for and there are also questions over his fitness.

The midfielder had struggled to get into the Coventry team under Iain Dowie and came north to get some first team action. Dowie has had Birchall's performances watched and the player believes he has done enough to challenge for a place when he returns to the Championship side after his loan deal comes to an end on January 2.

Personally, I'd been hoping Chris stayed with us until the end of the season as we'll now need to find another right winger. Hopefully, he'll force himself back into the team and put in some good performances before he loves.
